One campaign, two months, one framing
September is used for suicide-prevention outreach, and October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This student campaign connects the two because published research documents an association between intimate-partner violence and suicidal thoughts. An association does not mean every survivor is suicidal, and these resources do not replace individualized professional care.
Primary-source review: operational details were checked against the originating government, Northeastern, research, or service-provider pages linked here. Time-sensitive services should still be confirmed before publication.
Safe messaging is non-negotiable. Read the safe-messaging section before publishing anything — it governs language, imagery, and how crisis lines appear on every post, flyer, event, and email.

Why these two months connect
Sexual-assault risk estimates — needs primary-source review
The NSVRC article is retained as survivor-support guidance from the sponsoring organization. Its summarized multipliers should not be republished until the original cited studies and populations are checked.
Secondary prevalence estimate — needs primary-source review
A previously cited shelter-directory article summarized an attempt-prevalence estimate, but the originating study was not identified on this page. Do not publish the percentage until the original study, population, definitions, and limitations are confirmed.
Women with IPV history: 7x more likely to report current suicidal ideation after controlling for sociodemographic variables and childhood abuse
NIH/PMC — pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3152586/
PTSD and trauma are associated with elevated suicide risk; ~26.6% of 2023 veteran suicides involved PTSD
VA National Center for PTSD — ptsd.
11% of law students had suicidal thoughts in the past year (up from 6% in 2014)
2021 Survey of Law Student Well-Being (5,400 students, 39 law schools)
80%+ of law students reported trauma in at least 1 of 15 categories
Same survey
Lawyer suicide ranking and depression estimate — needs primary-source review
The former source was an advocacy foundation summary. Do not publish the ranking or percentage until an originating national dataset or original study is identified. Use the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs for current support guidance.

Before the event
Disclose WHO in the room is a mandatory reporter BEFORE any discussion begins; let participants opt out of sharing. Invite survivors to draft moderate questions and consent to any visibility. Provide schedule, breaks, restroom info. Ensure accessibility (captions, ASL if needed).
During
Do NOT put survivors on the spot. Monitor participant distress; have an OPEN UHCS BARCC contact available. Keep discussion at a systems advocacy level; redirect if it becomes clinical.
After
Post resources in event follow-up email. Check in with student volunteers. Flag any disclosures to OPEN for follow-up support.
